Abstract

This article gives a general overview of patent system, recent trends of patent application, and patent search environment in the Middle Eastern countries, especially in GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council), Saudi Arabia, UAE(United Arab Emirates), Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, and Oman, and Iran. The accessibility to patent information of each country is not good except for GCC. The environment to conduct an accurate patent search is not prepared in these countries; however, this article introduces some websites to access patent information currently available. It also introduces a trend of granted patent in GCC by analyzing patent holders and technical fields.
