Description
In this paper, we treat "Japanese Manga" in the context of wide aspects of visual narratives and try to clarify its cultural significance as a medium of visual narrative communication. Japanese contents, such as poem, picture scroll, ukiyo-e print, and manga, are created from a variety of social class positions. We have a culture where we respect not only an original work but also its derivative works. In western culture, they respect only an original work and feel aura in an original one. Japanese visual narratives, such as manga and light novel, as contents that express variety of world views from a variety of social class. We recognize the visual narratives not as sub culture but as main culture in Japan and try to clarify its possibility for world wide narrative communication.
