Abstract
A coupled system composed of two cellular automata in which one is driven probabilistically by the other is studied. The coupled system has a critical coupling constant Pc. For P>Pc, the two automata are mutually synchronized with each other exhibiting a chaotic motion called Wolfram's class 3. Class 4-type motion is generated by a class 3 rule near the critical point, and the phenomenon of edge of chaos is characterized by the Langton λ parameter and mutual information.
