Abstract

The electrical resistance of La–Ba–Cu oxide has been measured under magnetic fields up to 21.1 Tesla between 4.2 and 50 K. One of the samples completely recovers the normal state resistance at 33.5 K in H=0, and at 25 K in H=21.1 Tesla. Results show that La–Ba–Cu oxide shows really superconductivity and the upper critical field at 0 K, Hc2(0), is estimated to be 56 Tesla according to the dirty limit theory of type II superconductivity. Furthermore, a linear extrapolation of the Hc2(T) curve to 0 K, amounts to 80 Tesla. It is expected that such a La–M–Cu oxide system (Ba, Sr, Ca) is both a very high Tc superconductor as well as very high Hc2 superconductor.
