Description

We consider theoretically the equilibrium pattern formation of the get slab which is observed upon the volume-phase transition if one of the two surfaces of the slab is mechanically fixed prior to the transition. We show that the elastic theory for that geometry can predict the linear instability of some spatially periodic modes of deformation.
