Simple helical currents of same polarity and short pitch produce an average minimum B system by superimposing a vertical magnetic field Bv without use of toroidal coils. Analytically it is shown that the average minimum B is present in case of large aspect ratio and short pitch. Computations of toroidal systems, which have a moderate aspect ratio and l=3 helical windings, show that a ringless quadrupole configuration and the Taylor’s field are both realized by adjusting Bv. The rotational transform angle exceeds π and the mirror ratio is small.
