The optical Zeeman effect measurements for Dy3+ in YalO3 have been made at 4.2°K. The angular dependence of g-values in the ground state (6H15⁄2) is highly anisotropic, (gz′=18.7±0.6, gx′, gy′∼0). One of the principal axes (Z′ axis) of the g-tensor is in the direction deviated by the angle of 31° from the [010] axis in the (001) plane. The angular dependence of g-values in the excited states (6F5⁄2) is less anisotropic than that in the ground state. The direction of Z′ axis in each crystal-field state is different and an explanation is proposed to interpret this result.
