Abstract
The spin density induced by an impurity of transition elements in iron is investigated by taking into account the dielectric screening of an impurity charge and the local exchange enhancement. The Fourier transform of the induced spin density, the induced magnetic moment within an impurity cell and the change of the magnetization per impurity atom are calculated self-consistently. All the calculated results of these quantities for several kinds of impurities are consistent with the experimental results except the cases where the difference between valences of an impurity atom and an iron atom is less than −2. The observed characteristic difference between the distributions of magnetic moment induced by impurities of the left-hand and right-hand sides of iron in the periodic table is explained.
