抄録

We investigated whether or not liver cirrhosis (LC) can be discriminated from chronic hepatitis (CH) by analysis of serum cholinesterase (ChE) isozymes using affinity electrophoresis with concanavalin A (Con A), wheat germ agglutinin (WGA), lens culinaris agglutinin (LCA) or ricinus communis agglutinin I (RCA I). On Con A-containing agarose gel electrophoresis, one of three ChE isozymes disappeared in 50% (15/30) of cirrhotic patients. But only one of 20 patients with CH had the same abnormality. WGA-containing agarose gel electrophoresis revealed that normal controls and patients with CH had four ChE isozymes. However, approximately 63% (20/32) of cirrhotic patients lacked one of the four ChE isozymes. When these two affinity electrophoresis were used in combination, 73% (22/30) of cirrhotic patients had isozymic alteration of their serum ChE on either Con A- or WGA-containing agarose gel electrophoresis or both. The data obtained by use of LCA or RCA I was less contributable.
