Abstract

This paper aims to show how a genre of grassroots, non-commercial, and hard-to-locate serial publications called "minikomi" can be a rich resource for research. By examining the case of a large minikomi collection at the Research Center for Cooperative Civil Societies, Rikkyo University, which currently employs the author, the study reveals the particularity of minikomi as a medium that carries more than written words. Moreover, minikomis are often as interrelated and context-bound as archival documents. The difficulties and challenges in collecting, preserving, and making such aterials available for researchers are then discussed.
