Description

With budget reductions, academic libraries in the United States use interlibrary loan and document delivery services as a means to effectively share resources. Despite the fact that the number of ILL transactions is decreasing globally, it has increased for many libraries in the US. This can be attributed to the fact that US academic libraries have taken innovative approaches to improve ILL services and management including constantly applying new information technology. On the other hand, the introduction of new services and the increase of e-resources have created new problems. This paper discusses the ILL activities in the US academic libraries to illustrate the change, development, and challenges the libraries are facing.
