Description

This research was conducted to assist in the standardization for instructional purposes of basic pattern design techniques applicable to a diverse range of designs. This paper describes comparisons and studies of crotch lines to assist in the creation of pants patterns using the methods of converting curves into angle plots proposed in a previous paper. We examined the specific differences and similarities of crotch lines for men's and ladies' pants. We then produced patterns for fitting simulations using crotch lines obtained from mean values.
The results obtained are described below:
1) Studies using cubic Bezier curves revealed that the curves for men's pants were almost identical to the curves for ladies' pants. The curves used within men's pants were also almost identical to those used within ladies' pants.
2) The use of a mean control point enabled easy creation of mean crotch lines.
3) The front crotch lines for men's and ladies' pants matched almost exactly when translated in parallel.
4) The back crotch lines of men's pants differed from those of ladies' pants, but both crotch lines matched almost exactly when rotated.
5) The pants patterns using crotch lines obtained from mean values realized satisfactory results in the fitting simulations.
These findings are believed to be valuable in the introduction of new instructional theories in design methods of pants crotch-line.
