  • Relationship Between Preference of Clothes Color by College Students and Reason for Color Selection

抄録

The color preference and selection reasons for clothes were surveyed among 201 college students (89 males and 112 females) . For the survey study, a set of 117 colors were chosen as color codes from 12 basic colors on the PCCS hue circle, which were classified into nine tones. The achromatic colors were also included. The students chose each two colors out of two categories 1) the colors they would wear, and 2) the colors they would not wear, from the color codes. In addition, they explained the reason why they chose the colors they would wear. The results showed a tendency by both male and female students to choose black, white, gray and red for clothes they would wear. The selection of achromatic colors accounted for about 60 percent of the whole. As a result of factor analysis for the colors to be worn, four factors ---“self assertiveness”, “aesthetic sense”, “moderation”and“recommendation from others”---have been extracted. Furthermore, compared with males by calculating factor scores, females significantly had higher factor scores in“recommendation from others”, “aesthetic sense” and“moderation”.
