Abstract

Electrostatic flocking processing is used for many products for the purpose of decoration and function impartation. However, the official method for evaluating flocking strength of electrostatically flocked products is JIS L 1084 “Testing methods for flocked fabrics” only. This standard is stipulated for testing methods of fabrics such as fabrics and knitted fabrics with flocking and is evaluated using a friction tester. In this study, the validity of the flocking strength evaluation of electrostatically flocked products using a resin film was investigated. Focusing on the length of the flock, it was tested with products of 0.3 mm, 0.5 mm, 0.8 mm. As a result, it was only 0.3 mm that the flocking strength could be evaluated by the rubbing. Flocks caused the friction block to rise, or flocks between the wear and adhesion layer were seen to be smooth. From this fact, when evaluating the flocking strength of electrostatically flocked products using a friction tester, it was found that long flocks exhibit cushioning effect and apparently increase the evaluation value of flocking strength.
