Abstract

<p>In the wearing of fabrics by abrasion, the relation between the rate of their color change to reach the worn level criterion, <tt> </tt>E*ab=1.5, and their properties has been investigated. 22 different kinds of cotton plain-woven fabrics and one kind of linen fabric were supplied to prepare the fabric samples with 6 different degree of abrasion.</p><p>It has been found that the rate of the increase by abrasion in the color difference of the abraded sample from the non-abraded, the rate of wearing, is related to the lightness of the fabrics and to the stiffness in their warp direction. Through the multiple regression analysis of the wearing rate for the 8 factors, stiffness (warp, weft), yarn density (warp, weft), thickness, yarn fineness (average), twist level (average), and lightness L*, it has been clarified that the rate is smaller for the larger lightness, and is greater for the larger warp stiffness, giving a proper regression formula.</p>
