Abstract

The authors have investigated the relations between the feed conditions of a puller device attached to a lock-stitch sewing machine and the physical properties of fabrics for preventing seam pucker.
It was efficient that the working range of the puller device corresponds with the range generating the tightening tension of needle thread during stitch-making process. To be more concrete,it was very effective in preventing seam pucker that the puller device is working from a little before the feed dog begins to feed fabric (about 23 degrees in the rotary angle) to the timing that the feed dog sinks in a throat plate.
The amount of apparent fabric slippage at feed dog, LB' was an important variable relating to the prevention of seam pucker.
The discriminant function to predict the preventive effect of puller feed on seam pucker was derived using the composite variable reflecting feed conditions and the some variables selected from physical properties of fabrics. Furthermore the multiple regression equation to estimate LB' was also obtained using some physical properties of fabrics as explanatory variables. Both the results were very useful for predicting the preventive effect of puller feed on seam pucker.
