Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to report the program of community planning by the residents looking at the unit, oaza in Iwaki-shi Miwa town that is the rural area, and to clear the spatial and social characteristics. Then this paper investigate the problems of the basic concept of community planning based on improve of the living environment and the regional development. In cooperation with universities and region, it has revealed the spatial and the social characteristics looking at the unit, oaza, and the relations between them. Residents grasp the spatial elements as the place of history, tradition, event, interaction and so on in the daily life and the productive activity. And its characteristics become the outline of basic concept, so they are the elements of community planning as appeal and property inside and outside the district. Furthermore, it was able to show that the unit, oaza function as the unit of community planning.
