Abstract
Facing a rapidly population decline and aging, the restructuring of the city based on a detailed analysis of population movement is required in Japan. But, the population movement inside the city is not able to be caught enough by fundamental statistics like the census etc. NTT DOCOMO's "mobile spatial statistics" -population statistics compiled from the data required for mobile service provision - can estimate fluctuations in geographic population distribution, and is expected to become a new tool for the urban analysis. This thesis aims to evaluate the reliability of mobile spatial statistics, and examine the possible application in the city planning, through case study on Kashiwa City in Chiba Prefecture.
