Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to extract contributing factors to the greenery conservation along the Meguro-river watershed in Tokyo, which had been in a verdant suburban Tokyo in the Meiji era on the hilly topography and has suffered a series of sprawling urban developments that has eroded the greenery. For the purpose mentioned above, the historical transformation of landscape structures is analyzed under the concept of 'landschaft' which includes the transformation of the urban form and the cultural resources on the topographies, with a spatial envelope along the urban watershed segmented by the main arteries and the railways as the analytical unit. Based on the comparison among the types of historical transformation of landscape structures, the main contributing factors to the greenery conservation on the study area are found, which are the large- sized cultural resources and the slope topographies.
