Abstract

Awa-Dancing Festival is originally developed in the region of Tokushima. This dancing festival is to showrespects for their ancestors and to tribute for their souls during the Obon period. However, as rather easiersetting of the performing places, it spread out various places in Japan, particularly in Tokyo Metropolitanareas. Nowadays, this festival was used for revitalizing the shopping streets. There exist many communitiesof merchants and shop-owners who are suffering fewer customers, and encourage the interventions to drawpeople's attentions. Three largest Awa-Dancing Festivals; Koenji, Minami-Koshigaya, and Yamato have beensuccessfully operated drew people as much as Tokushima. This research focuses on four festivals to clarifycharacteristics and issues by the comparison between spatial conditions and management systems.
