Description
In many Asian counties, street vendors, though they contribute to creating lively environment of the street, often cause conflict against urban management seeking for effectiveness. However, particularly considering the severe economic situation of vendors, they should be more harmonious under appropriate street management. Therefore, this study aims to clarify the economic situation of street vendors and their space usage/utilization of the street they stall at through a case of Malioboro Street, Yogyakarta, Indonesia, considering the way forward to comprehensive street management. The conclusion highlights the severe but rational activities of each vendor under the institutional framework of street vendors along Malioboro Street and the social relationship among the vendors, and considers those activities indeed would create the lively Malioboro Street.
