Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to analyze the green space policies responding to suburbanization on the planned areas for Green Belt in the National Capital Region during the period of urban expansion. As the result of the study of green space policies on the north tama area especially in 1956-1965, the following 4points were clarified. 1) There were two types of green zoning areas, one was to prevent urban expansion, and the other was to preserve national resources. 2) Though green belt was aimed to keep agricultural areas, no agriculture promotion policy had been taken. 3) Many public housing complexes developed become important green stock now. 4) The green open space plans in this age built the foundation for the park system in the north tama area; many private open spaces were authorized in city plan and new scenic districts were designated.
