Description
This study aims to explore the impact of land regularization on the space management in unplanned settlements, using survey date from Lusaka, Zambia, where land regularization has been implemented since 1970s. It was found out that orderly and low-density residential environment has been built up and maintained over a periods of years by the community in unplanned settlements. But due to the implementation of land regularization, landowners have been losing sense of common land use and using their land exclusively, and residential environment has been deteriorating. To guide proper development of unplanned settlements, it’s important for the government to intervene in the space management by the community to make use of and complement it.
