Abstract

This study aims to clarify the transition of the sights (MEISHO), where people visit at leisure time, in Edo city through the Edo period. 25 traditional famous sights and 21 new sights which became to know and recognized to public as a famous sights in the later part of Edo era specifically chosen, and based on guidebooks which introduce the sights, maps around the sights, travelogues and diaries of those days, the analysis was conducted. Through the analysis of traditional sights, it was revealed that many sights provided with various religious equipments inside, and that natural elements and prosperity space became to be described. And through the analysis of new sights, attractive elements of many sights were the landscape from the inside of sight, and although it was a few, there were new sights planned, and producible method to make a space which attracts people in Edo era could be found among them.
