We had an initial clinical experience of using a new type of endoscope in Japan that has no fiberoptic bundle for imaging. We carried out the Video-Endoscope on the upper GI tract on 51 cases, and both the Video-Endoscopy and the fiberscopy were performed on 21 cases out of 51 for the purpose of comparison. The clinical diagnosis of the upper GI tract using the Video-Endoscope doesn't differ much from that of using the fiberscope. Strictly speaking, TV image of the Video-Endoscope is more detailed and clearer than that of fiberscope owing to the fact that the Video-Endoscope handles forty thousands of constituent of the image in contrast with the thirty thousands of the fiberscope, and so on. We will try to prove this point. Detective points to be improved were that it was less flexible, difficult to manipurate (Video-Endoscopic function of WA corp., Up & Down 180 & 120, R & L 110 & 110, ), and to take pictures. In the future, upper GI tract will be analyzed objectively by Video-Endoscope with computer, spectrophotometer capable of analysis of the image.
