Abstract

Distribution of the crescent shape of “dead trees strips” was surveyed in the northern part of the Yatsugatake Mountains and in the Chichibu Mountains.
The structure of the crescent shape of dead trees strip, which was investigated with the line transect method, showed a close similarity to those in Mt. Shimagare, suggesting that the former is the earlier stage of development of the latter. The occurrence of these dead trees strips was confined to altitude of 2100-2500m. and on the south (SE-S-SW) slopes of a mountain covered with the subalpine coniferous forest of Abies Veitchii and A. Mariesii.
Some discussions were hypothetically presented about the development process of dead trees strips from the crescent-shaped ones.
