説明

The COPNA resins were prepared from fused polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (anthracene and phenanthrene) and 1, 4-benzenedimethanol (PXG) as cross-linking agent, and p-toluenesulfonic acid (PTS) as catalyst, and heat-treated at temperatures between 200 and 2400°C to examine their thermal behaviors.
The resulting resins were considerably different in their thermal behaviors below 500°C e.g., ring closure reaction of anthracene- and phenanthrene-based COPNA resins occurs below and above 300°C respectively and, in addition, the weight loss of the former resin began at 380°C, which is lower by 70°C than that of latter. The cross-linking reaction of anthracene occurs mainly at its 9-and 10-positions and the resulting bridges are under serious steric compression. This may be responsible for the thermal behavior characteristic of the anthracene-based resin.
The nature of raw aromatic hydrocarbon, on the other hand, gave no effect on thermal behavior of the resins above 500°C, possibly because three-dimensionally cross-linked structure in the resins controls predominantly thermal behavior at this temperature range. X-Ray parameters of both resins after heating below 1000°C were so similar to those of graphitizable carbon but after heating to higher temperature the derived carbons did not developped their layer structure, they are classifide into non graphitizable carbons.
