Evaluation of machine translation is important for its development and users. Types of evaluation include translation quality evaluation, functionality evaluation, reproductivity evaluation, and other kinds of evaluations (such as processing speed and portability). Studies on translation quality evaluation have frequently been made in the past. Here, we will describe manpower evaluation on translation quality, as well as automatic evaluation that has been attracting attention lately. In regards to functionality evaluation and reproductivity evaluation, we will overview evaluations and studies made by authors. In functionality evaluation, functions in each machine translation software are compared and evaluated. In reproductivity evaluation of machine translation, reproductivity of proper web screen composition is evaluated. As a result, it was found that both functionality and reproductivity vary considerably depending on each product.
