Description
Technological innovations in the information and telecommunication sector represented by the "Information Technology Revolution" has made enormous impacts on the newspaper industry, so called a mature industry. The trend towards computerization and digitization has started in the fields of newspaper edition and program production. As a result, the computerization and digitization trend has led to an accumulation of electronic information on newspaper articles. The trend exerts significant influence on functions and roles of media, combined with explosive diffusion of the Internet in the last several years.This paper describes the latest development of new media services, such as news transmission services using search engines. This also reports digitization of newspapers seen in foreign countries. In particular, this paper briefly outlines how US and British newspaper companies tackle information supply through the Internet, citing specific examples.
