Description
The new definition of "Quaternary Period" was ratified by IUGS on 30, June, 2009. The ratification means that we, mankind, recognized specific features of the time when we (genus Homo) appeared and spread like cancer over the earth's surface. As a results, an abnormal environmental change and mass extinction is happening now. The definition concerns chronological periodization but not mere division of geohistorical phenomenon processes. The past long and confused discussion about the definition problem seems induced by a world-wide lack of understanding about the distinction of the chronological periodization and division of the geohistorical process. It must be noted that the need for a distinction between the two kinds of geologic time is accord with the fundamental nature of geology as a "complex system" science.
