Description

Objective: The frequency of appearance of the high-frequency component (HFC) of accommodative microfluctuation in intermittent exotropia was compared between before and after prism adaptation (PA).
Subjects and Methods: The dominant eyes of 9 intermittent exotropia patients (7-58 years of age) who visited Ibara City Hospital between July 13, 2011 and October 31, 2011 were studied. PA was performed based on the angle of deviation in distant vision measured in an alternate prism cover test. The frequency of appearance of HFC was measured before and after the PA using an autorefractometer with an astigmatism compensation function and ocular accommodation measurement software, and compared by the angle of deviation.
Results: The frequency of appearance of HFC significantly decreased after PA in patients with 40⊿ or greater angle of deviation (P=0.03; Wilcoxon signed-rank test).
Conclusion: PA decreases the frequency of appearance of HFC in some cases with a large angle of deviation of intermittent exotropia.
