- Performance of Fundus Photography Using the Ultra-Widefield Scanning Laser Ophthalmoscope Optos 200Tx™
抄録
Purpose: To compare the performance of the ultra-widefield scanning laser ophthalmoscope Optos 200Tx™ (the Optos 200Tx) and the conventional non-mydriatic auto fundus camera with a 45° picture angle (the NIDEK AFC-230).
Subjects and Methods: One normal eye and one eye with diabetic retinopathy were examined by the Optos 200Tx and the NIDEK AFC-230. The methods used for photography and the size of the peripheral area that could be captured were compared between these two devices. The minimal pupil size that could be captured by the Optos 200Tx was also evaluated.
Results: Because the subject's face had to be covered during the photography by the Optos 200Tx, the subject might feel less comfortable. In addition, the eyelash could be accidentally included in the image and the quality of the image might need better improvement. While the Nidek AFC-230 obtained conventional panoramic images of 100°-120° in picture angle within several tries, the Optos 200Tx could obtain images of 200° in a single capture even in pupils as small as 1.9 mm in diameter.
Conclusion: As compared with the Nidek AFC-230, the Optos 200Tx could obtain ultra-widefield fundus images of eyes with small pupils in one capture. However, special care is needed to prevent the eyelashes from being included in the image. A brief explanation regarding the possible discomfort during the photography might be necessary.
