Scanning laser polarimeter; nerve fiber analyzer; GDx access VCC (GDx) and optical coherence tomography 3000 (OCT) are optical devices that directly measure retinal nerve fiber layer thickness (NFLT). We compared the NFLT measured by these two instruments and also investigated the relationship between the visual field and NFLT in 59 eyes of 46 glaucoma patients who showed visual field defects in the upper hemifield or lower hemifield by Humphrey field analyzer central ·30-2·SITA-standard (HFA).<br>HFA and GDx agreed 83.3% with the TSNIT graph and 80.6% with the Deviation Map in upper hemifield defects. HFA and GDx agreed 87.0% with the TSNIT graph and 87.0% with the Deviation Map in lower hemifield defects. HFA and OCT agreed 97.2% with the Thickness Chart and 94.4% with circular diagrams in upper hemifield defects. HFA and OCT agreed 87.0% with the Thickness Chart and 82.6% with circular diagrams in lower hemifield defects.<br>NFLT measurement with GDx and OCT appeared to be useful in diagnosis and evaluating the progression of glaucoma
