Abstract
A 75-year-old male was admitted to our hospital for severe nasal bleeding. He had undergone right nephrectomy 11 years previously for right renal cell cancer. A metastatic clear cell carcinoma from the kidney was identified in the nasal cavity. Computer tomography and magnetic resonance imaging showed the large mass extending to the left nasal cavity, maxillary sinus, ethmoid sinus, sphenoid sinus, optic nerve, and pars petrosa of the internal carotid artery. For the treatment of nasal bleeding, nasal packing and arterial embolization were ineffective. However, radiotherapy (36Gy) was very effective and useful to stop the bleeding from the metastatic tumor. No recurrence of nasal bleeding has been noted for more than 17 months.
