Abstract

Open reduction and direct fixation are routinely used for correcting zygomatic fracture at the authors' department. The authors introduced a method in which the dental metallic plate is employed for direct fixation. The advantages of this method are as follows. 1) Tight and stable fixation is secured even in compound comminuted fracture. 2) Satisfactory results are obtainable by fixation at only one site in some cases, while fixation at two sites is necessary for interosseous wiring. From the above points of view, our method has proved to be an effective treatment resulting in a high degree of satisfaction.
