Combipenix, a combination of Ampicillin (AB-PC) and Dicloxacillin (MDI-PC), was administered to 72 patients with acute infections, such as 38 cases of acute tonsillitis, 9 of peritonsillitis, 2 of peritonsillar abscess, 4 of acute pharyngitis, 11 of acute tympanitis, 3 of acute paranasal sinusitis, 3 of chronic paranasal sinusitis (acute aggravation) and one each of dental maxillary sinusitis and periserotinitis. The results were excellent in 25 cases (34.7%), good in 28 cases (38.9%), fair in 18 cases (25%), and poor in 1 case (1.4%). As this compound was prescribed in cases of staphylococcic infections with an AB-PC tolerance, Combipenix was effective in all patients examined. Side effects were observed in 2, but in neither case were the symptoms serious. Combipenix demonstrated an extremely high therapeutic efficacy against various acute infections in the field of otorhinolaryngology.
