Description

Seed ripening of S. juncoides Roxb, var. ohwianus and germination response of the seed harvested at different stages of maturity were studied.
The seeds reached to the maximum in its dry weight in about one month after flowering on August 5 to 7. The color of seed coat which was green at 15 days after flowering, gradually turned brown to black with the ripening. The color of seeds was brown or dark brown when the seed reached to the maximum in its dry weight.
The germinability of seeds gradually increased from 10 days after flowering, but the seed dormancy developed from 20 to 25 days after flowering. And few germination in both light or darkness condition of seed harvested at the late stage of seed development occurred during the dry storage of 20 months.
