Abstract

Applying the MNY-method proposed in the preceding first report on the analysis of the frequency distribution data of individual tree weight in a forest stand, a new distribution function of the form, φ(ω)=αexp(-μω), was found. This exponential distribution was recognized rather commonly in approximately even-aged and fully closed natural stands of Abies sachalinensis and Betula spp., but scarcely in artificially planted forests of Cryptomeria japonica. Two parameters α and μ were found to be closely related to each other through the real density of the trees. These correlations give the possibility to estimate the optimal tree density where the distribution density of a given plant weight is maximal. The advantage of the exponential distribution as a mathematical model was also suggested.
