We analyzed DDAC in treated wood by both the AWPA and JAS methods. We also performed the recovery test and evaluated the possibility for practical uses of both methods The analytical value of DDAC in treated wood determined by both methods showed reasonable recovery to the value of DDAC calculated. The recovery test also showed good agreement with the analytical value of DDAC in treated wood. Consequently, there was no significant difference between the AWPA and JAS methods. The JAS method is based on the colorimetry of DDAC-orange II complex. However, we observed problems on reproducibility of experiment especially on the reactivity of DDAC with orange II, extractability and the stability of the color complex.<BR>On the other hand, in the AWPA method, the pretreatment for the samples is relatively easy and takes shorter time compared with the JAS method. As HPLC system is applied as an analytical equipment, the AWPA method is superior in the aspect of the analytical reproducibility and preciseness. The AWPA method can be used as a good alternative method especially when a lot of samples are needed to be continuously analyzed.
