Description

In a method of plucking a tuft from the upper surface of a bale of raw cotton by pressing down the upper surface of raw cotton with two parallel press bars and plucking a tuft from raw cotton arched up between the bars with use of opening tooth, mechanical conditions of plucking, namely, setting conditions of the aforementioned press bars and opening tooth, have some effects on the size or weight of opened tuft.
We try to clear these effects, relations between the tuft size or weight and the aforementioned conditions.
The result are summerized as follows :
1. The size or weight of tuft as well as dispersion of individual tufts increase as the distance between two bars increases.
2. If the pressing force of two bars is increased, the size or weight of tuft indicates an increasing trend, but the rate of that increase lessens.
3. The opening capacity of greater than a certain force is needed for plucking force of opening tooth, but this condition hardly has an effect on the size or weight of tuft and the dispersion of individual tufts.
4. Regarding the plucking depth of opening tooth, the size or weight of tuft increases sharply as the depth increases in the minus range while an increasing trend in the size or weight of tuft lessens in the plus range.
