Description

Among 35 cases who had non-hairy, melanocytic macules on the face, 17 cases were treated by skin abrasion followed by topical 5% hydroquinone monobenzyl ether cream (HQ), 6 by dye laser plus HQ, 3 by combination therapy with skin abrasion and dye laser plus HQ, 7 by abrasion alone and 2 by HQ alone. All patients have used the sun shade cream topically in the daytime. At one to 8 years after treatment, the results with skin abrasion plus HQ, dye laser plus HQ and the combination therapy were either good or excellent in 82.4%, 66.7% and 66.7% respectively. In contrast, with skin abrasion alone the results were 28.6%, while the same results were encountered in 100 percent with HQ alone, although the number of patients was very small.
