Description
A 32-year-old man was referred to us with two bean-sized nodules of 3 months’ duration on his glans with marked induration. He also developed multiple maculo-papular lesions on the palms and soles and an erythematous macule on the tongue. Flocculation tests using cardiolipin antigen, TPHA and FTA-ABS were all definitely positive. In addition, he had suffered from abdominal pain for the previous 3 months. Examination by gastric fiberscopy revealed several shallow ulcers on the gastric angle. Histologic examination of the nodular lesion on the glans and the stomach ulcers revealed dense infiltration of numerous plasma cells, lymphocytes, and a small amount of eosinophils with endothelial proliferation of small blood vessels. The abdominal pain and the macular lesions on the palms and soles disappeared three weeks after initiation of the treatment with oral penicillin, Nodules on the glans also disappeared four weeks after the treatment, leaving some slight pigmentation.
