Description
The usefulness of 2-step care using camellia oil spray and camellia oil-containing shampoo for the treatment of scalp symptoms of psoriasis vulgaris was examined. Patients were assigned to two groups for a comparative study : Group I included patients using a camellia oil-containing shampoo alone during the first 1 month and 2-step care, which combined a camellia oil spray with the camellia oil-containing shampoo, during the subsequent 1 month (initial shampoo mono-care group); Group II included patients using 2-stepcare during the first 1 month and the shampoo alone during the subsequent 1 month (initial 2-stepcare group). The results showed that the scalpPASI score decreased significantly (p < 0.01) in Group II after 2 months of treatment compared with baseline, although no significant reduction was observed in Group I. The scalpscaling decreased significantly (p < 0.01) after 2 months of treatment compared with baseline in both groups. No adverse reactions were observed in any case in relation to the camellia oil spray or camellia oil-containing shampoo. These results suggest that 2-step care combining the camellia oil spray and camellia oil-containing shampoo is useful for the treatment of scalp lesions in psoriasis patients.
