Description

The patient was a 66-year-old male who visited our hospital with the chief complaint of marked pigmentation mainly in sun-exposed areas. The minimal erythema dose of UVB was decreased. After initial treatment for chronic actinic dermatitis, Gottron's sign, muscle weakness, and arthralgia newly developed. Based on various clinical and histopathological examinations, the patient was diagnosed with dermatomyositis. Systemic examination demonstrated primary lung cancer with liver metastasis and interstitial pneumonia. The administration of oral prednisolone was not effective for the skin and muscle symptoms. The patient died of respiratory insufficiently associated with interstitial pneumonia. Dermatomyositis accompanied by photodermatosis and marked pigmentation should be carefully treated because malignant tumors complicate these conditions at a high frequency.
