Description

A 76-year-old man was seen because of a rapidly growing tumor on the vertex which invaded the skull and was pressing on the brain, as seen by CT scanning. On microscopic examination, numerous nests of tumor cells showing marked atypia with prominent nucleoli and an abundant cytoplasm in the subcutaneous tissue. While films of the chest showed no abnormal shadow, autopsy revealed that the tumor on the scalp was a cutaneous metastasis from a poorly differentiated carcinoma of the lung lying close to the posterior wall of the heart.
