Description

We studied the clinical feature and course and prognosis in ten patients whose skin biopsy specimens showed a necrotizing vasculitis and no systemic involvement. Cutaneous manifestations were subcutaneous nodules in ten patients, livedo racemosa in six, ulcers in two, and purpura in one. Extracutaneous manifestations were arthalgias in four, myalgias in three, peripheral neuropathies in four and low grade fever in four, and only the extremities were involved. X-ray examination and electromyograms were normal. Nerve conduction velocity was transiently abnormal in one. All patients had transient inflammatory reactions during the course of the disease. There were no significant immnological abnormalities. The observation period ranged from 5 months to 12 years and 10 months and in no patient was there systemic involvement. It seems that the course can be divided into two groups: a chronic relapsing course and long remission following early active disease. We have no explorations for differences. Fatigue, cold and menstration exacerbates the symptoms.
