Abstract
Multiple, recurrent red papulovesicular eruptions leaving depressed scars in the face, dorsa of hands and lower legs of 1 to 2 years’ duration were observed in two 5-year old boys and in a 12-year old girl. Conjunctival hyperemia and corneal opacity were observed in the boy patients. Histologically, intra- and sub-epidermal bullae and superficial dermal necrosis were observed. Blood, urinary and fecal porphyrins were within normal limits. Serum iron was decreased in all 3 patients. Urinary amino acids were slightly increased in the girl patient. UVB minimal erythema dosis was 3 minutes in each patient. Photo-provocation could not be induced clinically in the range of UVB (305±5nm, 0.675J/cm2), UVA (352±5nm, 4.39J/cm2), UVA and UVB, visible (420±5nm, 4.32J/cm2 or 525±5nm, 7.9J/cm2), infra-red (a 800 Watt heater) or solar (110 minutes) lights. Nineteen patients without the evidences of porphyria as shown in the Japanese literature were reviewed.
