Description

Transplanted skin cancer in C3H/He mice was investigated by electron microscope. The cancer was squamous cell carcinoma of the third degree of Broders’ classification, which was naturally observed on the skin of the mouse. The cancer cells had large nuclei with large nucleoli. In the cytoplasm of the cancer cell, tonofibril formation was poor, ribosome formed polysome, endoplasmic reticulum was rich in number and mitochondria were large in size. Intercellular spaces were widened and microvilli were formed in long configurations. Virus particles were seen in the intercellular spaces and in the endoplasmic reticulum of the cytoplasm. Basal laminae were kept in figure. Mitotic cancer cells were frequently seen in the cancer nest. It was concluded that the transplanted skin cancer was useful material as experimental research.
