It is well known that the southern part of Hokkaido is a region of abnormal seismic intensity for deep earthquakes.
In case of the intermediate earthquakes, felt area in Hokkaido can be clearly separated from unfelt area, regardless of epicenters. The felt area is always limited to south from the volcanic front.
Also, the southern part of Hokkaido becomes perceptible by many shallow earthquakes. However, for the shallow earthquakes west off Hokkaido and in central inland Hokkaido, the felt area shows a different features from the above mentioned area.
These phenomena may give suggestions to the crustal structure and absorption of seismic waves, in Hokkaido.
