The decrease of acreages of mulberry-field and the increase of that of orchard are now a common Phenomenon to be seen in the regions where silkraising industry used to thrive formerly. This tendency has especially been conspicuous in Fukushima Basin, along with in Kofu and Nagano basins. From the viewpoint of the relation between locations of mulberry-field and orchard, Fukushima Basin may be divided into four regions. The orchard region occupies the central, the paddy-field region the southern, the sericulture region the northeastern, and the orchard-increasing region the northwestern part of the basin.
In the orchard and the paddy-field regions, almost every section of agriculture is organized on the base of cultivating one dominant crop, and both regions keep stability. On the contrary, in the sericulture and the orchard regions there is no dominant crop. There are two or three crops cultivated on equall terms in them, and so those regions are easy to lose stability.
As there is a tendency that in future the acreage of orchard would be increased, the regional differentiation of agriculture in Fukushima Basin seems to be much more intensified in future.
